If you read a list of the best Best Picture winners in order, you probably would find Forrest Gump near the bottom, just ahead of Chicago, Dances with Wolves, and Ordinary People. Lots of people say that either The Shawshank Redemption (my 3rd favorite movie. EVER.) and Pulp Fiction should've won.What won:
Best Picture: Forrest Gump
Best Director: Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump)
Best Actor: Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump)
Best Original Screenplay: Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avary (Pulp Fiction)
